Empowering Students Through Community + JA + Educational Collaboration

On Tuesday, April 28, Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School (JLJES) came alive with excitement as we hosted another impactful JA Day. The day was filled with meaningful connections, engaging lessons, and inspiring moments that were all made possible by our dedicated Presenting Sponsor, Charles Schwab- as part of their annual Schwab Volunteer Week, a company-wide initiative where thousands of employees dedicate paid hours to support and volunteer with local nonprofits. At JLJES legions of local '“Schwabies” along with other community-mined professionals joined to volunteer, serving as mentors to teach and guide the students through the JA lessons.

We are deeply grateful to the professionals who dedicated their time and energy to support our students. By stepping into the classroom, you helped bring real-world experiences to life and showed students what’s possible for their futures. Your willingness to give back demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening our community and empowering the next generation.

Because of you, students left the day feeling inspired, capable, and excited about their futures.

We proudly recognize the organizations whose volunteers made this day a success:

About JA Day for Elementary-Bringing Learning to Life

Throughout the day, volunteers led interactive sessions focused on financial literacy, career exploration, and entrepreneurship. Students not only learned key concepts but also heard firsthand about different career journeys from the volunteers helping them connect classroom learning to real-life opportunities.

The curiosity, enthusiasm, and thoughtful questions from students reflected just how powerful these experiences are when caring adults invest in their growth.

Valuing the Heart

Joe Lee Johnson Elementary’s mission begins with valuing the heart, and this was evident throughout JA Day. Volunteers built genuine connections with students, creating an environment where students felt seen, respected, and encouraged. Through caring interactions and shared experiences, students developed confidence and a sense of belonging. These relationships are essential in helping students grow not only academically but also socially and emotionally.

Engaging the Mind

Junior Achievement programming strongly supports the mission to engage the mind. Throughout the day, volunteers led interactive lessons focused on financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship. These hands on experiences encouraged students to think critically, ask questions, and apply new knowledge in meaningful ways. Students were fully engaged as they explored how classroom learning connects to real world opportunities, reinforcing their development as curious and capable learners.

Finding their Voice

JA Day also supported students in finding their voice and their vision. Through conversation, storytelling, and reflection, students were encouraged to share their ideas, express their goals, and imagine their futures. Volunteers helped students begin to see themselves in different career paths and understand the steps needed to achieve their dreams. These experiences empower students to grow into lifelong learners equipped for positive world impact.

Inspiring Confidence and Possibility

For many students, JA Day provides a first glimpse into the professional world. The volunteers’ stories, encouragement, and guidance help build confidence and open doors to new dreams. These moments plant seeds that can grow into lifelong aspirations. One volunteer relayed, “My favorite interaction was seeing the kinders paying attention and showing attention to detail. I also enjoyed them asking me to come and play with them on the playground and drawing me pictures.”

A special thank you to our educational partners from JLJES. You are the heart of your school and we are thankful to be invited in on your students’ educational journeys to become lifelong learners.

We look forward to partnering with you all again for future JA Days and continuing this important work together!
