Career-connected learning took flight as students from the Hospitality and Culinary pathways at Travis Early College High School participated in an unforgettable job shadow experience with Delta Air Lines. This immersive opportunity allowed students to step beyond the classroom and into a global industry setting where learning became tangible, meaningful, and deeply inspiring.
From the moment students arrived, they were welcomed with warmth and intention. The day began with a behind-the-scenes tour of Delta’s facilities, giving students insight into the scale, precision, and teamwork required to operate a world-class airline. A standout moment for many was the airplane tour, where students explored the aircraft and learned how hospitality, culinary planning, safety, and operations all come together to create an exceptional passenger experience.
Throughout the experience, students heard directly from Delta professionals representing a wide range of career pathways. Speakers included aircraft mechanics, flight attendants, pilots, and professionals from sales and operations. Each speaker shared their personal career journey, emphasizing that there are many entry points into aviation and countless opportunities beyond what students may traditionally associate with an airline. For many students, this was the first time they could clearly envision themselves in these roles.
Students also enjoyed a tour and tasting in the Delta Sky Club, where they observed hospitality and culinary excellence at the highest level. This experience was especially impactful for Culinary and Hospitality students, as it connected classroom skills such as food preparation, presentation, and customer service to a premium, professional environment. It reinforced the importance of attention to detail, consistency, and pride in craftsmanship.
Experiences like this Delta Job Shadow are essential to career-connected learning because they allow students to build confidence by seeing themselves in professional spaces, make informed decisions about college and career pathways, understand the real-world relevance of their coursework, and network with industry professionals and role models. Most importantly, these opportunities help students envision futures that feel both possible and attainable, transforming abstract career ideas into clear, concrete goals.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible Delta team that made this experience possible. A special shout-out to Delta Air Lines team- Katie Brown, Chase Scott, Danette La Costa, Suzan Rustemi, Dion Moncur, Chloe Geenen, Paola Lancaster, and so many others whose time, energy, and commitment to student learning created such a meaningful and memorable day.
At Junior Achievement, we believe the most powerful learning happens when students connect education to real-world careers. Thanks to Delta Air Lines and its outstanding team, our students left inspired, empowered, and ready to soar toward their futures. ✈️
